Underwater housing for large, professional style dSLR cameras
order code: U-BZ
The housing can be used on small boats, in the surf, while swimming, snorkeling or diving. It`s easy to operate as the camera as its various components and buttons can be operated through the PVC.
The U-BZ is specially designed to fit the bulky, professional and semi-professional digital SLR cameras like the Nikon D300, D800, D3, D4 und Canon 5D Mark II, 5D Mark III, EOS 1DX and similar cameras using lenses with a maximum filter diameter of up tp 72mm. Generally, these would be wide angle or fixed focal length lenses. Smaller SLR cameras then the mentioned above can still be used in the housing.
The fact that the U-BZ can be used with up to 300m lenses, makes it specifically interesting for canoeists and other outdoor photographers that want to take pictures of birds and other wild life while in or on the water.
With this housing, a whole new world of applications opens up for your professional digital SLR camera: Inside the housing you can now take the camera safely canoeing, snorkeling or even diving, up to a depth of 20 m / 60 ft.
If the optional BF1 lead weight is inserted into the housing, underneath the camera, it becomes even easier to reach the maximum depth. Experienced photographers have confirmed, that the auto focus continue to function perfectly. As you descend, the air is pressed into the camera. Due to this, the pressure inside the housing will remain the same as the surrounding water pressure. (this is the reason why ewa-marine housings are so safe to use: implosions are impossible) Due to this, we have to start the dive with a suitable amount of air inside the housing. The foam pads supplied with the housing are part of this air "reservoir" and additional air should also be blown into the housing, via the valve at the rear, to ensure that the maximum potential volume is being utilized.
This is only one of a range of underwater SLR housings by ewa-marine.
If you are using a lens with 82mm, 77mm or 72mm filter diameter, then you would have to get our U-BZ100. Basically the same housing, the only difference being the larger front port and adapters. [click to read more...]
The U-BZ is specifically designed for cameras with longer lenses what makes it interesting for canoeists and out door photographers. While it can also be used for scuba diving, for lack of a strong, external strobe. The camera's small, built in flash (if available at all) is too close to the lens, resulting in small, suspended particles in the water showing as "snowflakes" in the picture, i.e. can not be used in most applications, the U-BZ is limited to 20m / 60ft. A depth where you also can still take pictures with ambient, natural light.
Depending on your application but the following products offer a better solution:
- U-BZ100: Similar to the U-BZ, but with a larger front port accepting lenses with a filter diameter of up to 82mm
- U-B100: Similar to the U-BZ100, but with a shorter front port tubus. Ideal for short lenses (wide angle and fixed focal length)
- U-B: Similar to the U-B100 but with a smaller front port diameter allowing a maximum 67mm filter thread (and a bit cheaper)
- U-BXP100: large dSLR with top mounted strobe and up to to 50m / 150ft dive depth. Primarily for scuba diving.
Designed specifically for consumer style digital dSLR, large mirrorless system-camera as well as the "old style" analog 35mm SLR cameras, the ewa-marine U-BZ underwater housing is manufactured from our special, double laminated PVC and has an integrated, optically neutral flat glass as a front port. With this housing you will receive a set of adapters that fit the filter threads of the most popular lenses on the market today. By means of this adapter the camera is then docked into the housings front port, ensuring that the lens remains parallel and centered behind the front of the lens. Just as if it were a clear, neutral optical filter.
As many cameras in this category have a built in, pop-up flash we have added a "roof" to accommodate it in the housing. To fix the right hand near the shutter release, the housing has an adjustable wrist strap and a "Finger" to position the index finger right on the trigger.
Our SLR housings are sold with a foam padding that fits underneath the camera, inside the housing. This sponge has to be removed if you want to use your camera with a battery grip, or to make space for the tripod connector that is available as an optional extra. (Please keep in mind that, as a result, cameras like the Nikon D4 or Canon 1DX, that basically include a fixed "battery grip" as part of their design, can not be used inside the housing that has been fitted with a tripod connector.)
It has a pair of non-corrosive and seawater resistant clamping rails which fit together for perfect sealing. They tighten by means of three screw knobs. There is also the practical, adjustable carry strap on the clamping rail.
It is supplied in a handy yellow storage and carrying case.
